1915: el año más largo del imperio otomano
El presente volumen recoge la mayor parte de las conferencias presentadas en el Simposio Internacional â1915: El año más largo del Imperio Otomanoâ, organizado conjuntamente por la Universidad de Ankara y la Universidad Externado de Colombia y realizado en la ciudad de Bogotá entre los días 10 y 12 de febrero de 2015, a cien años de la Batalla de Galípoli, que marcó el ingreso del Imperio Otomano en la gran guerra y, al mismo tiempo, el horizonte para la aurora de la República de Turquía.
Cada ponente abordó el objeto del Simposio desde diferentes miradas: algunos desde la historia, otros desde la geopolítica, o desde los actores del conflicto mundial y la posición de las naciones latinoamericanas, otros, finalmente, miraron las consecuencias directas de la participación de los otomanos en la gran guerra. Los autores: docentes, investigadores, políticos y diplomáticos, provenientes de diversas naciones, universidades y centros de investigación, logran ofrecer un panorama construido desde diferentes horizontes para quien desee comprender en profundidad el desenlace de la participación turca en el conflicto mundial de inicios de siglo.
El volumen es el resultado del esfuerzo conjunto de dos instituciones universitarias ubicadas en continentes diversos y aparentemente lejanos cultural e históricamente, pero cercanas, al mismo tiempo, en sus intereses y comprensión del rol de la universidad en el mundo, en este caso concreto aquel de conservar la memoria y de divulgar, más allá de los límites geográficos, culturales y lingí¼ísticos, el producto del riguroso trabajo de la investigación interdisciplinar.
This volume compiles most of the lectures presented at the International Symposium "1915: The Longest Year of the Ottoman Empire," jointly organized by Ankara University and the Externado University of Colombia and held in Bogotá from February 10 to 12, 2015, one hundred years after the Battle of Gallipoli, which marked the entry of the Ottoman Empire into the Great War and, at the same time, paved the way for the dawn of the Republic of Turkey.
Each speaker approached the Symposium's subject from different perspectives: some from history, others from geopolitics, or from the perspective of the actors in the global conflict and the position of Latin American nations. Finally, others examined the direct consequences of the Ottomans' participation in the Great War. The authors—professors, researchers, politicians, and diplomats from diverse nations, universities, and research centers—succeed in offering a panorama constructed from different perspectives for those who wish to deeply understand the outcome of Turkey's participation in the global conflict at the beginning of the century.
The volume is the result of the joint efforts of two university institutions located on different continents, seemingly culturally and historically distant, yet similar in their interests and understanding of the role of the university in the world—in this specific case, that of preserving memory and disseminating, beyond geographical, cultural, and linguistic boundaries, the product of rigorous interdisciplinary research.
