Construcción social de la salud mental y la psiquiatría

The social construction of the field of mental health and psychiatry has had, throughout its history, different spaces of tension, discussion and proposals that always reveal a problematic knot that runs through the history of our culture.

The convergent and divergent positions when approaching this field not only account for its complexity, but also bring together actors and agents with different perspectives, inscribed in their context, of the social structures of each moment; of political, institutional, theoretical tendencies and, in short, fully human interests and concerns. The interest of this book is, then, to approach the border between health sciences, medical knowledge and social sciences when approaching a field of such a mixture, through research that hopes to contribute to one of many " interdisciplinary border crossings.

Problematizing the frontiers of knowledge, in a firm and purposeful way, is also one of the challenges of the "Mental health, violence and conflict" line of the "Area of health, medical knowledge and society" of the Social Dynamics Research Center of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Externado University of Colombia.
