Dilemas en salud

This publication contains the results of research by professors and graduates linked to the Area of Health, Medical Knowledge and Society of the Social Dynamics Research Center (ClDS) of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Externado University of Colombia.

The work shows the tensions and dilemmas of certain health practices, and the demands for autonomy, inclusion, solidarity and health justice. Dilemmas and tensions that are in the bioethics debates and that require integration and dialogue between the different epistemological and methodological contributions of the social sciences, philosophy and the life and health sciences.

This edition of Cuadernos del UDS is a contribution to health dilemmas from the social and human sciences. It contains the following research: the nature of moral dilemmas and practical rationality; face one's own diagnosis from the experience of patient-doctors; the construction of meanings around the intention of treatment in women with cancer; the analysis of the speeches of doctors and lawyers regarding end-of-life procedures; the conspiracy of silence in relatives of cancer patients; the political ideologies of health; between desolation and oblivion: the workers of the San Juan de Dios hospital.
