Although the lines that separated technology-producing countries from technology-receiving countries have become increasingly blurred, it is indisputable that asymmetries persist in the contractual relationships between holders of intellectual property rights and those interested in obtaining or benefiting from the technology. knowledge that protects said rights. An important sector of doctrine has maintained that competition law and intellectual property law, far from being two antagonistic disciplines, are two sides of the same coin, since, despite the fact that the latter creates exploitation rights exclusively, the first must be in charge of regulating the exercise of these "monopolies" so that they do not cause economic distortions or even so that they do not affect society in general.

Autora de varias publicaciones, coautora del libro «Derecho de Patentes» y autora del libro «El Derecho de la Competencia y las Licencias FRAND: Herramientas para el acceso a invenciones. La Dra. Herrera cuenta con experiencia en diferentes áreas del derecho: propiedad intelectual, derecho del entretenimiento, derecho de competencia desleal, prácticas restrictivas de la competencia, comercial y seguros.Desde el 2013 es profesora de materias relacionadas con el derecho contractual, seguridad de la información, protección de datos personales y propiedad intelectual. Actualmente se encuentra cursando un PHD sobre Derecho de Comercial con énfasis en Propiedad Intelectual en la Universidad Queen Mary University of London; también se desempeña como Docente Investigadora del Departamento de Propiedad Intelectual de la Universidad Externado de Colombia y como Socia de Gherrera Abogados & Asociados.
