Movilidades y cambio urbano Bogotá, Santiago y Sao Paulo

What are the main changes underway in the socio-spatial configurations of Latin American metropolises? How do settlement, social divisions of urban spaces and territorial inequalities evolve? What spatial mobility practices or public policies contribute to accelerating these changes? Or to resist against them? And more precisely: How do migrants insert themselves into the city? How do residents access housing and why do they change housing, or not? How are everyday mobility inequalities currently characterized? What changes are happening in the centers? How are the popular classes accommodated in the peripheries?

Such are the questions that structure this collective work that derives from the METAL research program (Latin American Metropolises in globalization: territorial reconfigurations, spatial mobility, public action) on Bogotá, Santiago and Sao Paulo and financed by the ANR (AQence Nationale de la Recherche - France) and the AIRD (AQence Inter-établissement de la Recherche pour le Développement - France). Twenty-two authors who participated in the project contributed to its writing.

 The greatest originality of the work lies in the comparative dimension developed in this research. Effectively comparing metropolises of such dimensions is not an easy task. The comparison was carried out through a methodology that combines the use of existing data and the production of new information on mobilities through surveys and was applied identically in the three cases: strictly comparable data is thus available. The group studied offers interesting specificities in terms of size, national economic and political contexts, positioning in migratory systems and public action in terms of housing and transportation. Enough arguments that allow us to propose in this work original knowledge about the changes that affect the "Latin American metropolitan scenario" since the 1980s.
